This shoe has a beautiful shape that is nice enough for any occasion and modest enough for dressier school days. My daughter, who is eight years old, can still wear size 2 in other brands, is comfortably wearing the size 4. It has a little growing room but should work well for many months. As far as the width, it is maybe slightly wider than a traditional dress shoe, but this one is the narrowest of the L'Amour styles that we have had.
Yes, they run a bit small. And they appear to be too wide for one of the girls. (This is her second pair & the previous was wide as well.
